I discovered this genius playlist not long after I first subscribed to Apple Music. It is comprised of thirteen songs originally released by male vocalists, but covered by female vocalists. Although I am not familiar with all of the originals, I have to say for those I know, the girls have it won.
Adele covers Dylan‘s To Make You Feel My Love by simply lending her fantastic vocals, while Ellie Goulding covers Elton John‘s Your Song similarly, using her trademark breathy style. But Birdy‘s cover of Bon Iver‘s Skinny Love is a complete transformation, and Sinéad O’Connor‘s Nothing Compares 2 U is such a stand-out hit arrangement of the relatively quirky Prince original.
You’ll probably know either the original or the cover of each of these songs and that may guide your judgement of who did it better, but I reckon every one of them is a fine example of the art of song.
